Semester/Year-Long
Admissions for Study Abroad:
Program in Contemporary Middle Eastern Studies &
Arabic
This program is intended for students taking a semester or year of study
abroad and are seeking credit for their course work at their home
institutions. Credit is transferred to a home university, generally
under pre-approval, through a YCMES transcript. Classes are held
on the credit-system, with each course meeting four hours a week for a
fourteen-week semester (each course is given a weight of four course
credits).
The College is open
to all qualified individuals regardless of race, gender, marital status,
sexual orientation, national origin, or other characteristics
discriminating against which is prohibited by U.S. and EU laws.
Requirements for admission vary, depending on the category of entering
student: if college undergraduate, good academic standing (B average or
above) beyond the freshman level is required from an accredited college
or university; if a graduate student, good academic standing (B+/A-) at
a major graduate program; and if in the public or private sector, a
university degree at the level of BA or above.
Admission is competitive and applicants will be
ranked according to the quality of their grade transcript, their
academic essay, and letters of recommendation. Every effort will be
made to constitute a divers class.
Applications will be reviewed on the date of the priority deadline, and
thereafter will be considered on a rolling basis until the program is
full
The College reserves the right to expel any
student from the program for the following reasons: failure to make
satisfactory progress; chronic absence from classes; culturally
inappropriate behavior in a conservative, Muslim country that would have
a negative impact on the College’s activities. The College takes a
strong stand against sexual harassment and has a set of procedures in
place to pursue complaints of this nature (see Student Handbook for more
information on college policies).
All questions regarding admissions should be
directed to
admissions@ycmes.org.
