academics: overview
YCMES students have the option of choosing between three programs of study:
- Program in Arabic Language (PAL): Students who enroll in PAL will take intensive courses in Arabic language exclusively (private or group instruction).
- Program in Contemporary Middle East Studies (PCMES): Students who elect PCMES will combine courses in Arabic language with small-group seminars on the contemporary Middle East. These seminars will be taught by distinguished professors from North America, Europe and Yemen (in English).
- Center for Business English (CBE): CBE is for Yemeni students and professionals who desire the intercultural and communicative skills that matter in the world of international business today.
**Sana'a Residents: If you are an expatriate resident of Sana'a (not on a tourist visa) and would like to study Arabic with us, please contact us directly at pal@ycmes.org or give us a call(01270200). Click to download our local student registration form. We will be happy to accomodate your work schedule; prices will vary depending on frequency of classes. Students and employees of NGO's receive a reduced rate.
For PAL and PCMES, credit is transferred to a home university, generally under pre-approval, through a YCMES transcript. Classes are held on the credit-system, with each course meeting four hours a week for a fourteen-week semester (each course is given a weight of four course credits).
