Ahmed A. Saif got his Ph.D and MA in politics from the University of Exeter. Dr. Saif is the director of Saba Centre for Research & Studies (Yemen); teaches at YCMES; he is a member of Editorial Board, Journal of Strategic Studies. Previously he taught at the American University of Sharjah and the University of Exeter, also he held the position of Research Manager at the Gulf Research Centre in UAE, Editor of the Journal of Gulf Studies; Managing Editor for the series of Iran Studies and Yemen Studies; Consulting Editor, Economist Intelligence Unit; Consulting Editor, Annual Register and member of the IISS. He published extensively and among his publications are: Democracy in Yemen; A Legislature in Transition; ‘The Role of Parliaments in Preventing and/or Resolving Political Conflict; ‘Local Governance and Participation in the GCC States’; ‘Decomposing before Building: Perspectives of Democracy in Qatar; ‘Prospects of the American Strategy in the Middle East’; ‘Yemeni Parliamentary Elections: A Critical Analysis’; ‘Constitutionalism in the Arab Gulf State’; ‘Yemen: State Weakness and Society Alienation’; ‘Electoral and Party Systems in Yemen’ and contributed to Encyclopaedia of the Middle East and North African Cities. His research interests cover a wide range of areas related to the politics and international relations of the Arab countries. Of central concern have been the legislative and democratic developments and state-society relations in the Arab countries.
