Short Term Programs
The Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies is flexible for different types of study abroad programs. Becoming more popular are short-term group programs, with a host-institution sending a group of students for a tailored program designed by the YCMES. Generally, the host institution will inquire with the YCMES contact to start the process of organizing a group program to Yemen. The YCMES will take into consideration the specific requests of the program, whether they be academic or travel-related, to design an initial proposal and tentative schedule. The process continues until a program is mutually agreed upon by both sides. The majority of logistics is taken-care of by the YCMES contact, but host-institutions often send a group coordinator along to supervise the program in Yemen.
Programs can range in objectives, from intensive Arabic programs to NGO internships to cultural tours of Yemen. Instruction can be provided by YCMES staffing, or an accompanying professor from the host-institution can teach a course while traveling with the students.
The YCMES is able to provide the following services for short-term programs:
- Discounted RT Airfare through Yemenia from the U.S., Europe, and other locations
- Yemeni visas
- Airport transportation
- All travel arrangements in Yemen
- Yemeni cultural activities
- Arabic instruction from survival to advanced levels
- NGO placements for service projects
- Meetings with requested organizations or ministries
- Housing in modern facilities
- Meals at the YCMES kitchen
- Wireless internet and 24-hour computer lab
- 24-hour emergency services and hospital transportation
- 24-hour guards at YCMES facilities
- In-country staffing needs
The YCMES has hosted several short-term programs in the past from American, European, and UK institutions. More recently, the YCMES has organized the following short-term programs:

Scheduling & Costs
The YCMES can accommodate short-term programs throughout the year, though it is best to inquire early. Programming can fill up especially during the summer from June to August and during January. The YCMES requests programs to be requested at least three months in advance to ensure availability.
Short-term programs can last anywhere from ten days to three months. The YCMES recommends at least two weeks so participants can gain a good understanding of Yemen. Normally, groups consist of 7 to 15 participants.
Costs vary depending upon services requested and number of participants. During the inquiring process, the YCMES will provide budget proposals, and adjust these to the needs of the host-institution.
